With the shift towards advanced vehicle technologies, Light Vehicle Technicians are at the heart of keeping cars safe, efficient, and compliant. This role ensures that vehicles from traditional combustion engines to hybrid and electric models are maintained and repaired to the highest standards.
Working as a Light Vehicle Technician means applying diagnostic expertise, mechanical skills, and attention to detail to deliver reliable service across a diverse range of vehicles.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform scheduled servicing and repairs on light vehicles, including mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, following manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Use advanced diagnostic tools and software to identify faults, interpret error codes, and implement corrective actions efficiently.
- Conduct detailed inspections of braking systems, suspension, steering, and emissions to ensure compliance with legal and environmental requirements.
- Carry out complex repairs such as engine rebuilds, transmission replacements, and hybrid/electric system maintenance, including high-voltage safety procedures.
- Document all work performed, including parts used and diagnostic findings, in accordance with workshop and regulatory reporting standards.
- Collaborate with service advisors and customers to explain technical issues, recommend solutions, and provide transparent cost estimates.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies, including EV systems, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), and diagnostic innovations through CPD.
This role continues to adapt and diversify as new technology, systems and vehicles come to market.
