I developed a passion for tyre safety, which led me to become an advocate for the industry
I’ve always been a car enthusiast thanks to my dad, who began as a truck tyre fitter, later moved into car tyres at ATS, and went on to set up our family business. He’s been in the trade for more than 40 years. Growing up, I spent time around cars and motorsport clothing, and by 14, I was already immersed in the automotive world. After college, where I studied Animal Management, I stepped back when my mum became ill. Later, I worked in hospitality before deciding to join the family business, Westgate Tyres. I started in the office managing suppliers, then moved into depot operations. Over time, I developed a passion for tyre safety, which led me to become an advocate for the industry.
Advocating for tyre safety and educating others is what I love most. I enjoy meeting new people, continuous learning, and working in an environment where professionalism doesn’t mean losing your personality. Inclusion matters to me, I believe ADHD is a superpower, and I embrace diversity in the workplace.
My hospitality background taught me customer service and communication skills, which are invaluable in managing a busy depot and working with clients. My early interest in motorsport and cars gave me technical curiosity, which drives my passion for tyre safety.
People often underestimate the complexity and responsibility involved. It’s not just about fitting tyres, it’s about safety, compliance, and adapting to new technologies like AI. There’s also a misconception that it’s a male-dominated, inaccessible industry, but that’s changing. I’m proud to be part of that change.
The industry needs fresh talent and diverse perspectives. There are so many opportunities beyond the workshop, marketing, management, technical roles, and advocacy. Be prepared to learn continuously and embrace innovation.
I’ve gone from managing suppliers to becoming a recognised voice for tyre safety. I’ve trained with Continental, spoken at Parliament, featured on the BBC as a female tyre expert, and won five awards, including ‘Inspiring Woman of the Year.’ I also serve on the NTDA Executive Council, where I’m proud to represent women in the sector. My journey shows that passion and persistence can open doors, even without formal qualifications.
