As vehicle repairs become increasingly sophisticated, achieving a flawless finish is essential to restoring both the appearance and value of a vehicle. Vehicle Paint Technicians play a vital role in the final stages of the repair process, ensuring that refinished surfaces match manufacturer standards in colour accuracy, texture, and durability.

Working as a Vehicle Paint Technician involves combining technical expertise with precision and craftsmanship. Using advanced refinishing systems, colour-matching tools, and application techniques, you will ensure vehicles are returned to customers, insurers, fleets, and hire companies in pristine, showroom-quality condition.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing vehicle surfaces for painting, including sanding, masking, filling, and priming to ensure optimal finish and adhesion.
  • Mixing, matching, and adjusting paint colours using digital colour-matching tools and manufacturer paint codes to achieve accurate and consistent results.
  • Applying base coats, clear coats, and specialist finishes using spray guns and controlled-environment spray booths in line with manufacturer and industry standards.
  • Carrying out paint rectification work, such as polishing, blending, and fading techniques, to create seamless transitions and remove defects or imperfections.
  • Maintaining paint equipment and spray booths, ensuring all tools, filters, and ventilation systems operate safely and effectively.
  • Documenting materials, processes, and batch codes for compliance, traceability, and insurance reporting requirements.
  • Producing accurate time and material estimates, completing all associated administrative and digital records to ensure transparency and efficient workflow management.
