The sector has become much more digitalised, which has changed the way I analyse data and communicate insights to stakeholders.
Although I loved motorsport from a young age (which even led me to getting my motorbike), automotive wasn’t my first thought when thinking about starting off my career.
After finishing college, where I studied Esports, I reflected on the opportunities and pathways I could take. These being either going to university, finding a job role or an apprenticeship.
Helping with my parents’ business, which relied heavily on data, made me realise how much I enjoyed analysing what worked well, what was challenging, and creating visuals using data tools. That’s what inspired me to explore a data focused career and ultimately led me into automotive.
Before joining I was worried the office environment would feel overly formal and strict. Instead, I discovered a workplace full of passionate people who create a light and friendly atmosphere. I quickly realised how well everyone knows each other and that many laughs can be had in the office.
Although people might assume my role is just sitting behind a desk analysing numbers, the real enjoyment comes from the opportunities the business provides, especially within Audi UK.
For example, on a few occasions we have visited Silverstone as a brand, which is a refreshing environment away from the office. In addition is the many off-site events that are non-work related such as playing ‘Race Across the World London’.
I’m grateful that I get to attend these events hosted across the UK, they remind me that I’m part of something much wider.
My day usually begins by generating core reports for stakeholders to understand our daily performance. From there, I balance operational tasks with data analysis and cross team collaboration, helping turn trends into insight.
I spend my time investigating trends, designing dashboards, and uncovering opportunities that help our teams make informed decisions quickly, efficiently and with confidence. This is achieved via the continuous improvements that I make to my report from critical feedback from around the business. I do all of this whilst balancing my apprenticeship content, plus the additional workstreams I am involved in.
The sector has become much more digitalised, which has changed the way I analyse data and communicate insights to stakeholders. Learning tools such as Power BI and Power Automate have helped me adapt, and I’ve enjoyed using them, especially when creative ideas come to life and are shared across the business.
I also teach these skills to others just starting out using these tools. Watching them get excited whilst developing their reports from start to finish, knowing I was able to help them through that learning process, is great to see.
If you are unsure on how to enter the automotive industry, there are many pathways such as; undergraduate and graduate programs and apprenticeships. That is how I started off my career doing a Level 3 apprenticeship for 2 years. That course taught me so much and showed me the passion I have on what I do day-to-day, so I continued my studies again, this time doing a Level 4.
I feel as though it is important to give back and share these stories to the community. I do this by personally visiting schools of all ages to inspire the next generation or future cohorts to come.
